Lecture and Dry Lab

 

In this course we explore the evolution of locking systems and mechanical concepts. The course aims to understand the choices made in terms of steel versus titanium and polyaxial versus fixed.

Course Objectives:

  • Review of the development of locking plate systems
  • Review of the biomechanical principles of locking and non-locking plate systems
  • Review the differences in characteristics between steel and titanium
  • Discuss how these differences affect patient and implant selection
  • Cases studies
  • Familiarisation with, and the correct use of, the locking systems instruments
  • Application of implants of the locking system to the tibia, femur and humerus in the dry lab
